Sport coats and blazers, from $499. Navy hopsack, midweight flannel, summer linen, tweed for the winter. Cut from the same measurements as a suit. For most men in Danville this is the piece that gets worn most and the one the rack fails hardest, because a sport coat has nowhere to hide a bad shoulder. At home. Old Town and Danville Estates, Blackhawk, Diablo, Camino Tassajara, Bettencourt Ranch, Alamo Creek, Shadow Hills, Northridge, Diablo Highlands, and north into Alamo. Most of these run a weekday evening or a weekend morning, whichever the house prefers.
At the office. Hartz Avenue, Railroad Avenue, Camino Ramon, and the Bishop Ranch corridor in San Ramon. Usually between meetings, in your own conference room.
At the club. Blackhawk Country Club, Round Hill Country Club in Alamo, Diablo Country Club in Diablo, and Crow Canyon Country Club in Danville. Members can ask for a private room on a quiet weekday afternoon, which is often the easiest hour a member has all week.

- No. Sam brings the whole thing to Danville. The cloth library, the measuring tools and the working garments arrive at your house, your office or the club, and the first session runs ninety minutes. - I commute all week. When does this actually happen?
- When you are free. Weekday evenings, weekend mornings, or between meetings at your office. There is no store calendar to fit into, so the appointment moves when yours does. One session to measure and choose cloth, one to deliver and fit. That is the whole commitment, and neither one costs you a drive.
- I joined a club and nothing I own works for it.
- Club rooms want a jacket, and a work jacket usually reads wrong in one because it was cut for a conference room. A club jacket is a different garment: softer construction, cloth with some texture to it, and a cut that works over a polo as easily as over a shirt. Summer runs to linen and hopsack, winter to flannel and tweed, and most men end up with one of each rather than one trying to do both. - I already buy at the top of the rack and it still does not fit. Where does that start?
- With the fit, not the cloth. A man buying at the Tom Ford and Zegna end of ready to wear already knows what he likes. What he has not had is a pattern cut to his own body instead of a size corrected afterward by an alterations tailor. Chest and waist are measured separately. Each shoulder is measured on its own. Sleeves are cut to your bicep and forearm. Made to measure starts at $999 and reaches a fit most men cannot tell from bespoke.
- Can a tailor just alter what I already own?
- Partly. He can take in a waist, shorten a sleeve and narrow a trouser. He cannot move the shoulder seam, the armhole or the top of the sleeve, because those are cut together at the pattern. If the shoulder is wrong, nothing fixes it afterward. That is the one thing worth knowing before you spend money on alterations again.
- What if it comes back wrong?
- Sam fits it on you in your house and takes it away if it needs work. Alterations are free for the life of the garment, with no time limit and no cap on return visits.
- Do you make anything besides suits?
