Cut to your measurements rather than to a size. In named mill cloth it starts at $1,500, which is also where canvassed construction begins.

Nobody ends up in Orinda by accident.
You looked at Miramonte. You looked at what a Saturday morning is like when the hills start at the end of your street. You compared the number on a house here against the number on a house with no yard closer in, and you chose this side of the Caldecott.
The commute came with that. Twenty-six minutes on BART from the station sitting in the middle of the freeway, or the tunnel and the bridge if you drive. The average commute here runs a little over thirty-six minutes, the longest of the three Lamorinda towns, and the station lot has a habit of filling before nine.
You do not complain about it, because you know exactly what you bought with it.
What you bought is the other end of the day. And the weekend.
That is not a complaint about the village. Theatre Square and the Village Square carry what a town of twenty thousand needs, and the Orinda Theatre has been on that corner since 1941.
What Orinda does not have is anywhere to buy a suit. The nearest real option is Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek, or back through the tunnel into the city.
So buying a suit means making your own commute again, on a Saturday, by choice.
And it is not one trip. It is three, usually four. The first is measuring and choosing. The second is the fitting. The third is picking it up. The fourth is the one nobody warns you about, when the alterations from the third are not right.
Then there is what you get at the end of it.
Off the rack is cut to a fixed ratio between chest and waist and graded up and down from one imagined body. If your proportions do not match that body, the tailor at the shop is approximating, not fixing. The shoulder cannot be moved at all, no matter who does the work or what he charges.
So you spent your Saturdays and you own a suit that is almost right. Most men here have made that trade once already. It is why there is something in the closet they have quietly stopped wearing.
Most men can tell a suit is off and cannot say why. Sam can. The most common reasons are on the fit pages.
Nothing is rushed. Bring your questions, and you finish knowing what already works in your wardrobe, what has not, and what will.
Sam comes to you. The cloth library, the measuring tools and the working garments arrive together.
Your commute has two ends, and he works at both. Some Orinda men are fitted at the house on a Saturday morning. Others are fitted at their desk in the Financial District between meetings, and never mention it at home until the garments arrive.
Your travel time across the whole thing is zero. The appointment moves when your calendar moves, because there is no store schedule to work around.
How much you see is up to you. Some men want three cloths on the table and a recommendation. Others want the whole library and time to decide. Both work, it costs the same either way, and you do not have to know which one you are before Sam arrives. You also do not need an opinion on canvas construction or lapel width to end up with the right suit. That is his job.
Alterations stay free for the life of the garment. No window, no expiry, no limit on return visits. That is the Perfect Fit Guarantee and it comes with everything he makes.
If you wear a suit twice a month and a jacket four days a week, the jacket is the garment worth getting right.
Sport coats and blazers, from $499. Navy hopsack, midweight flannel, summer linen, tweed for the winter. Cut from the same measurements as a suit. It is the piece that gets worn most and the one the rack fails hardest, because a sport coat has nowhere to hide a bad shoulder. If you belong to Orinda Country Club, founded in 1924 on Camino Sobrante to a William Watson design, it is also the piece the club calendar asks for, and a club rotation is rarely one jacket. Linen and hopsack carry the summer, flannel and tweed carry the winter, and neither substitutes for the other. The country club wardrobe covers that rotation in full.
Knitwear, from $299. Cardigans, crewnecks, half zips, in merino and cashmere. Cut to your chest and your arm rather than to a small, medium or large. An Orinda July starts near fifty and reaches the low eighties by afternoon, so what you leave the house in and what you wear at four are not the same thing.
Outerwear, from $499. Cut to go over a jacket, which almost nothing off the rack does properly.
Shirts from $199, trousers from $299. White and light blue carry most of the rotation. Patterns show up on the second order.
Men who start with one suit usually come back for the jackets.

Final cost depends on the cloth, the number of pieces and the order they are made in. Men commissioning several pieces at once are extended courtesies appropriate to the relationship.
The full ladder, every mill floor, is on the cost page.
Whatever you order is covered by the Perfect Fit Guarantee: made perfect, or corrected until it is.
At home. Sleepy Hollow, Orinda Downs, Glorietta, Orinda Woods, Wagner Ranch, El Toyonal, Del Rey, Ivy Drive and Wilder. Most of these run a weekday evening or a weekend morning, whichever the house prefers.
At the office. Downtown San Francisco, Oakland, Walnut Creek, or the room at home you actually work in. Nearly four in ten Orinda residents work from home, and a fitting in that room takes the same ninety minutes as anywhere else.
At the club. Orinda Country Club, 315 Camino Sobrante. Members can ask for a private room on a quiet weekday afternoon.
Everything arrives with Sam. Nothing is shipped to you to try on yourself.
Sam also comes to Danville and Walnut Creek. Every town he covers is on the locations page.
Ninety minutes at your home, office or club, on a date you pick. Sam brings everything. You choose cloth and he takes the measurements.
